Whitesail Opal

is a recent discovery from Northwestern British Columbia , Canada. It is found in the Alpine region of the remote Whitesail Mountains 60 miles south of Houston, BC.

Read an article describing the property HERE.

Access is by Helicopter only, and permanent Snowfields cover much of the terrain.

This precious opal occurs mainly as volcanic-hosted matrix material that flashes a brilliant play of fire against a dark background. Stabilized matrix opal material in pieces up to several pounds are available for cutting and carving, and an example of red based matrix is shown here.

Clear, white and even black colour-base solid precious opal nodules are found, although relatively rare.

One piece of AGATE from the area, of which there is substantial amounts, even had Precious opal Included.

A friend, Brian Isfeld of Courtenay BC, made a very LUCKY! cut through this one, and the result is very exciting and encouraging.

Some of the agates from the Whitesail opal region Brian has cut are shown here also.
